About Care & Comfort

Susan Dempsey Giguere is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Care & Comfort.

Susan D. Giguere gave birth to her company, when she was 46; the same age as her mother was when she was born. She wished that this company was available for her when she was caring for her elderly parents and family members with mental illness. Her mother was a victim of Alzheimer's and her father was debilitated by strokes. At that time, there were no ongoing services to support her as she cared for her parents. Her only goal each day was simply to make it to the end.

Recognizing the need for high-quality health care professionals, particularly in the rural areas of Maine, Susan Giguere founded Health Care Temps in 1991. Starting with $2,500, a one room office, a commodore 64 computer and one other person, she created a service that offers health care worker services not only to homes, but also to doctors' offices, hospitals, nursing homes and other industries. In 1995, she expanded her business, creating Care & Comfort.

Today there is a production staff in excess of 500, serving over 1500 families across 13 counties in Maine, with 5 offices across the state, located in Bangor, Dover-Foxcroft, Presque Isle, Waterville, and Wilton. Susan feels that the growth of Care & Comfort is in large part due to its dedicated employees and the great job that they do everyday!
