Care & Comfort & Their Wilton Employees Present Gift to Theresa's Totes

The staff of Care & Comfort’s Wilton office selected Theresa’s Totes, as the recipient of their semi-annual Jeans Fund gift. This program, sponsored by a local church, provides some Wilton children with food for the weekends when school feeding programs are not available.

Lory Zamboni, program co-founder and representative of the Dryden Baptist Church, was recently on hand to talk with our staff about the program and to receive the contribution.  Zamboni noted that over 70% of Wilton children qualify for free or reduced lunch, a significant indicator that food scarcity is happening right here, in our backyard.

Staff at the local school identify the neediest students and distribute the totes allowing for anonymity.  Currently, 18 take home bags for the children are packed with enough food for two meals, lunches and snacks every two weeks.  Twice each year, additional items such as household cleaners, health products and school supplies are also included.

The program depends on donations from the community as well as a local benefactor.  They are actively seeking partnerships with churches, businesses and individuals to sustain the program. “Once a family receives a bag, it is very important to provide continuity, as folks depend on this food,” says Zamboni.

There are several ways the community can support Theresa’s Totes.  First, by donating needed items.  Secondly, volunteers can assist Zamboni with bulk shopping and packing bags.  Finally, financial support, such as the gift from Care & Comfort’s Jean Fund or other corporate sponsored fundraisers.

This gift was made possible through The Jeans Fund, an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees. Fridays are Jean Day, and staff can leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually. “Our participation in this grass roots effort to help our neighbors is yet one more example of Care & Comfort in action,” said Susan D. Giguere, Care & Comfort’s CEO.  She added, “we look forward to an ongoing relationship with this program.”  For more information, please contact Corey Walmer, C & C’s liaison to Theresa’s Totes, at Care & Comfort’s Wilton Branch or Lory Zamboni by calling 645-3526.
