The Piscataquis YMCA’s Scholarship Fund Receives A Gift From Care & Comfort and Our Dover-Foxcroft Staff
In 1988, the Piscataquis Region celebrated the opening of a facility which would provide a place primarily for athletic and fitness endeavors. Today, almost 28 years later the programs and services have evolved to include activities for those of all ages, but their focus remains on helping members reach their health and wellness goals.
From an early age, three months, children can be involved, and the program offerings are fantastic - both for the child and parents. While the fees are reasonable, many in this economically depressed region may see them as roadblocks to participation. This is why the Y’s scholarship program is so important. Anyone with financial need is encouraged to apply for a scholarship which can help with membership dues as well as with program fees for child care, fitness Classes and more.
This gift was made possible through The Jeans Fund, an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees. Every Friday is Jean Day and staff may leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans for a $2.00 donation. The company then matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
"For many of us, the YMCA was an integral part of our community as we were growing up. Although at the time we thought we were just having fun, our experiences there helped shape us into the people we have become. As one of the Maine’s largest providers of Behavioral and Home Healthcare, we work with youth daily and understand the importance of, and appreciate, the Y's commitment to nurturing the potential of every child. The Piscataquis Regional YMCA will never turn someone away because of an inability to pay for services or programs; this is the reason our Dover-Foxcroft team chose the PRYMCA Scholarship Program as the recipient of our Jean Fund gift. We're proud to support and partner with an organization that provides not only enjoyment but a strong foundation for a bright, healthy future for so many." remarked Mike Stair our COO.
