Care & Comfort Presents Donation to Kora Shrine in Support of Children s Hospitals

Care & Comfort Presents Donation to Kora Shrine in Support of
Children’s Hospitals

Care & Comfort and members of their Waterville headquarters administrative staff presented a gift from their Jeans Fund to the Kora Shrine in support of the specialized care children receive at their two New England Hospitals.

Shriners Hospital for Children-Springfield is devoted to delivering the highest quality of care to children with orthopedic and neuromusculoskeletal disorders and diseases, as well as cleft lip and palate. Shriners Hospitals for Children — Boston is one of the world’s leading centers for pediatric burn care and the treatment of skin conditions. Both hospitals provide treatment without regard to the family’s ability to pay.

Accepting the check on behalf of the Kora Shrine was Barry J. Gates, Past Potentate and Treasurer, who also serves on the Boston Hospital Board of Governors. Gates thanked Care & Comfort and their employees for the donation and provided an informative summary of the Shriner’s hospitals, their mission and how patients can receive needed care. “This contribution is essential to helping children and their families; we are so grateful you selected us. Equally important is the public’s awareness of what we do and how we can help children. Whether they need orthopedic surgery, treatment for burns or care for a myriad of diseases and disorders, we are here for them. Although referrals from Maine to our hospitals are up, we need your assistance in spreading the word so no child goes without medical care due to financial reasons. Our world-class Doctors, state of the art facilities and hospital networking system transform the lives of children up to 18 years old through excellence in treatment.”

Gates relayed that 90% of burn patients now survive and lead fulfilling, productive lives. Due to awareness by parents of dangers such as scalding, the number 1 cause of burns to children under five, the Boston hospital has seen a significant reduction in these type of cases annually. This decline has enabled the medical teams to offer further treatments of skin conditions such as scarring and birthmarks.

“Most know of the Shriner Hospitals. Yet, listening to a person who has a passion for assisting others share details about these world renown hospitals enlightened us to the full scope of what they provide,” said Susan D. Giguere Care & Comfort’s CEO and Founder. “As one of Maine’s largest home healthcare and mental health service agencies serving individuals and families throughout the State, we frequently meet children who need specialized medical care. We are so fortunate that it is available to everyone in our region. When I learned our staff selected Kora as the Jean Fund beneficiaries, I was very pleased. Now we are now committed to helping them help children by sharing information about the hospitals”.

The Jeans Fund is an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees; Jean Day lets staff leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans on Fridays for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
