Care & Comfort And Their Bangor Staff Present Gift to Bangor Ronald McDonald House

Care & Comfort And Their Bangor Staff Present Gift to Bangor Ronald McDonald House

Care & Comfort and the staff of their Bangor branch presented a check to the Ronald McDonald House in support of their mission to assist families of critically ill or injured children.

For 30 years, Bangor’s Ronald McDonald House has provided guests a home away from home while their child receives treatment at a nearby medical facility. Maine families can find support and share experiences with others in an affordable, home-like setting that provides lodging, meals and comfort.

Accepting the gift was RMH Executive Director Darlene MacLeod, who said, “The Ronald McDonald House of Bangor becomes a temporary, comforting home for a child’s parents and siblings. At the end of a long day at the hospital, they are greeted with a warm smile from a friendly volunteer, a home-cooked meal and a comfortable, cozy private room. Funding for our house that can accommodate up to 14 families per night comes primarily through the generosity of the local community and businesses who contribute the money necessary for us to continue. This generous gift from Care & Comfort and its employees will directly help us provide for those who have traveled long distances to be with their child. We sincerely thank each of you”.

The organization suggests a donation of $10.00 per night from families; however, it is often waived due to financial hardships. “Our Bangor team selected the Ronald McDonald House as the recipient of our Jean Fund gift to aid parents through a very difficult journey,” said Regional Manager Toby Wood. “We are pleased we can assist some who are facing stressful and often uncertain times,” he added.

While focusing on the needs of a child undergoing intensive medical treatment the family as a whole often experiences a period of upheaval. The RMH provides a total family-centered atmosphere.

“As a mother and grandmother I have the utmost compassion for parents of an ill child," remarked Susan D. Giguere, Care & Comfort’s Founder and CEO. “For guests of the Ronald McDonald House to have access to a library stocked with resource materials, a full laundry and a playroom for children is fantastic. In our family, the kitchen is truly the heart of our home; at the RMH, the same is true. For moms and dads to be able to gather there with others facing similar situations, share emotional support and yes, maybe even a laugh a two, offers a bit of respite and a chance to regroup. Our staff made a perfect choice when selecting this organization which gives care, comfort and support to Maine families.”

The Jeans Fund is an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees; on Fridays, staff can leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised, and the employees at each of their five offices select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
