Care & Comfort and the staff of their Bangor Branch recently presented a gift to the Bangor Public Library to support the children's wing relocation and upgrades.

Opened in 1913 the current library has undergone several relatively minor changes during its 102 years, and it was time for a major overhaul to stay relevant for today while allowing flexibility for the future. “Some of our most vivid childhood memories involve trips to the local library,” said Care & Comfort’s founder and CEO Susan D. Giguere. “Who doesn’t remember walking into a magical place where the world was yours to explore, the sights, the smells and of course the silence.  Times have changed and will change every decade; we are so happy to play a role in this major redevelopment project for the children of today and tomorrow.”

The children and young adult programs will move to the top level, where there will be much more space for an expanded selection of books, performances, story times, crafts and a small kitchenette. “A gift like this to the Children’s Department helps us ensure that we can continue offering high-quality, entertaining, and FUN programs FREE to the public, said Lisa Frazell Director of Marketing and Development for the library. She added, “We are extremely humbled by the generosity of Care & Comfort. Their generosity means more books, more programs, and more technology invested in for our community’s children”.

“As a major employer in Maine providing home healthcare and behavioral health services statewide, we value and promote the opportunities local library’s offer. Whether borrowing large print or recorded books for the elderly, encouraging youth to explore and learn through reading and technology or doing research, there is something for everyone.  The Bangor Library is one of  the region’s treasures and  represents what a partnership between municipalities, philanthropists, local corporations, foundations and the local citizens can establish and maintain for generations,” said Care & Comfort’s CEO Lee Jellison.

According to Frazell, “the Bangor Public Library does not charge for any programs, services, or library cards to the public. It is our mission to ensure that everyone, including our youngest library lovers, have the access to the information and resources they seek”.

This gift was made possible through The Jeans Fund, an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees. Fridays are Jean Day, and staff can leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
