Care & Comfort's Presque Isle Branch Supports Beyond Limits

Care & Comfort’s Presque Isle Branch Supports Beyond Limits

Care & Comfort and the employees of their Presque Isle Branch recently presented a Jeans Fund gift to Beyond Limits, a nonprofit that partners with local organizations to bring adaptive sports and recreational activities to Aroostook County.

Founded in 2013 by Dr. Jacquelyn Lowman, an Associate Professor of Communications and Journalism at UMPI,  the organization assists people in undertaking and overcoming challenges through recreation, team building, problem-solving, communication and other activities.  Dr. Lowman, a paraplegic born with spina bifida wants those with differing abilities and the community to know that all things are possible when done in a supportive environment.  Lowman, who attributes her determination to her late father who instilled in her at an early age that she could do whatever she set her mind to doing, believes that a challenge is just another opportunity. Today Lowman with her beloved service dog Saint are enjoying life and all it has to offer to the fullest while spreading the word that we are all born with unlimited potential.

Presenting the check during the company’s annual Summer Staff Appreciation Day were Care & Comforts Founder and CEO Susan D. Giguere, Marcel Daigle the agencies Presque Isle Branch Manager and several staff members.   “We have followed Beyond Limits since day one and are extremely impressed with their leadership and volunteers.  We are pleased to partner with community organizations, including the Nordic Heritage Center, in supporting them as they find creative ways to enable many in Aroostook County  to experience recreational activities through the use of adaptive equipment,” remarked Giguere.

The Jeans Fund is an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and its employees; on Fridays, staff can leave their usual work attire at home and wear jeans for a $2.00 donation. The company matches every dollar raised, and the employees at each of their five offices select their local beneficiary semi-annually.  Commenting on the selection of Beyond Limits as the recipient Daigle said, “They help change the "I can't do that" way of thinking to "I can do that" which helps in many areas in life.  The fact that participation in these adventures is offered free of charge, thanks to donations and volunteers, opens up a world of opportunities that did not previously exist”.
