Care & Comfort and their Staff Make Donation to Literacy Volunteers of Bangor

Bangor, ME - Care & Comfort and members of their Bangor team recently presented Literacy Volunteers of Bangor a check from their Jeans Fund to help those with limited reading, writing, or English skills.

“We are proud to support this important organization that helps people of all backgrounds and abilities improve their literacy,” stated Mike Stair, President & COO of Care & Comfort.  “Often as our staff provides care they encounter folks with literacy barriers, as many in our area face these.  I applaud our Bangor team for choosing Literacy Volunteers of Bangor for this gift.  The sole mission of this very deserving organization is to provide free one-on-one tutoring to improve the lives of people in our area who want to better themselves."

LVoB the first literacy volunteer program in Maine, founded in 1969 and proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary, is funded solely by private donations and grants.  Three hundred well-trained volunteers help to positively change the direction of life for several hundred students every year without judgment and with opportunities for lifelong learning.

The Jeans Fund, an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and their employees, has contributed more than $83,000 in the past ten years to community-based non-profit organizations.  Every Friday staff may wear jeans to work for a donation, the agency then matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
