Care & Comfort and their Staff Support the Piscataquis Regional Food Center

Dover-Foxcroft, ME ~ Care & Comfort and members of their Dover-Foxcroft team recently presented a gift from the Agency's Jean Fund to the Piscataquis Regional Food Center.

The PRFC is fighting hunger by connecting people with programs and services to help them acquire healthy food.  Additionally, they provide resources for local farms and home-based businesses that need help establishing or growing their markets.

PRFC’s cornerstone program is a pilot project with Good Shepherd Food Bank to create a regional “redistribution” center that serves all of Piscataquis and surrounding towns.  PRFC itself is not a food cupboard, but it will assist GSFB and other donors provide more food to regional food cupboards. Additionally, they help people access programs and services needed to build and sustain healthy lives. By assisting organizations that have similar or related goals become better connected they are more visible to those that need them the most.

“We are indeed inspired by the PRFC's mission and successes they’ve had in fighting hunger in our community, and are pleased to join them in that fight,” noted Mike Stair, President & COO of Care & Comfort. “I would like to thank our Dover-Foxcroft employees for selecting this forward-thinking organization to receive our donation.  As providers of behavioral and home health care, we often see the effects of food insecurity and unhealthy choices.  We recognize the potential of the partnerships the group is forming, and are delighted to support their work to make our communities healthier.”

The Jeans Fund, an ongoing collaborative fundraising effort between Care & Comfort and their employees, has contributed more than $83,000 in the past ten years to community-based non-profit organizations.  Every Friday staff may wear jeans to work for a donation, the agency then matches every dollar raised, and the employees of each branch select their local beneficiary semi-annually.
